[850] Birthday Wishlist

As is tradition when my birthday is nearing, I like to write down a wishlist of stuff I wouldn't mind receiving. Because I'm a greedy bastard. So without further bullshitting from me, here are the things I wouldn't mind receiving. And yes, these are all things I doubt anyone would give me.
  • Honda BR-V. Any automatic variant. I know we're still in a quarantine but if things finally get better and people are allowed to travel again, I wouldn't mind driving around in a new family vehicle. BR-V fits the bill since it can seat five to seven people. Seat five and you have generous cargo space in the back.
  • Suzuki Jimny. Another ride? Sure, what would I use when the BR-V is coding? Plus this will be my toy car. I'm getting too old and I've lost my "need for speed" so I don't drive as fast nor do I have any plans of going too fast anymore.
Some of you may be wondering, "What about your dream car, the Volkswagen Beetle?" Good question. While I would love to own that, I'd rather own some really modern, fuel efficient rides with air-conditioning at the moment. Besides, I'm pretty certain maintenance costs for both the BR-V and Jimny will be crazy.
  • A really powerful gaming laptop. Ideally RTX video card, 32gb RAM, 1tb M.2 SSD, 2tb HDD, and the fastest Ryzen processor. I really wanted to build a desktop but prices are skyrocketing because of the pandemic. Lots of people need to build PCs for either working from home or learning from home. So I guess I'll wait until demand goes down before I assemble my own.
  • 24-fret electric guitar with a nice amp, two good cables, and a handful guitar picks. I still have my guitar, I don't know if it still works. Neither do I know if my amp still works. I want to get back to playing the guitar. Find a hobby that doesn't need a computer.
  • Power tool for DIY furniture / car maintenance. I watch too much youtube videos. I enjoy "Get Hands Dirty" and am always inspired to DIY our own furniture here. "Chrisfix" is my go-to channel for car related stuff.
  • New 3-in-1 printer / fax / scanner. One that uses ink bottle refills instead of cartridges. It's just cheaper and with Martina doing learn-from-home I'm guessing she'll be needing to print a lot of stuff now.
And that's it for now. Stuff I would like to have off the top of my head. There are other luxury stuff like mirrorless cameras and the other stuff but these are the ones I really would love to get as gifts. Not that I'll be getting any of these.

[842] My Birthday Wishlist

My fortieth birthday is still a few months away, but seeing as how we're in quarantine and I have a lot of time on my hands I might as well create a wish list of stuff I wouldn't mind receiving as gifts.

  1. Seiko 5 SRPD79K1 or Swatch Irony Night Flight. A luxury item I wish I could own. While I do have a couple of watches already, most of them are digital and more casual looking. Either of these two watches gives me something I can wear for more formal or semi-formal occasions, not that I like going to those things. I'd prefer the former (Seiko 5) over the latter but I really do have an intense liking of chronometer / tachymeter watches.
  2. New rims for the 2001 Toyota Rav4. The rims should match the tire specs of 235/60/R16, with a PCD of 5x114.3 so that means I'd need 16-inch rims. Offset should also match. Basically replace the current rims, that need to be refurbished because they are leaking air, some at a horrible rate than the others. I'm not too particular about rims so I'd be happy with any of these Rota models that have : EG6, Rota Racing, or the D-154. Or if I'd be willing to go with 17-inch rims if I could pick the RKRs only.
  3. New tires for the same Rav4. This is more of a need, since the current tires are relatively old, even if they aren't that worn. I'm actually quite interested in getting a set of Goodyear Wrangler TripleMax tires. I've been hearing good things about this brand, and hopefully they're a lot cheaper than Bridgestone. Other brands I'd consider are Bridgestone, Firestone, and Yokohama Geolandars.
  4. A computer table and shelf combo. I saw the table in Lazada and it looks both practical and space saving. Only concern with this is that there is no space for an extra monitor.
  5. A new laptop. Specifically the ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DV. Best bang for the buck laptop I've seen so far here in the Philippines. Of course, with newer models and competitors coming out soon, I don't mind waiting to see if there will be better options out in the market.
Well, those are some of the things I wouldn't mind receiving as birthday gifts. Though to be honest the tires are something I really need to get. The rest are just wishful thinking.

[778] 2018 Birthday Wish List -- Dream On Edition

Since I'm in a better mood today I'd like to post yet another 2018 birthday wish list. It is highly improbable that I get any of these things, but hey, a guy can dream right?

So without further ado...

  1. My own daily driver. Top three I'd consider? Honda Jazz, Ford EcoSport, or the 2019 Suzuki Jimny. All automatics, of course. Something that has better fuel consumption than our 2001 Toyota Rav4, yet has the same compact size so it can still fit great inside parking spaces.
  2. A condo in Makati. Somewhere in a nice, safe location. Even just a one-bedroom to share with my wife and daughter. Should have parking space. This would make sure we would not have a hard time bringing my daughter to school and my wife to work. We wouldn't have to wake up that early just to be able to avoid traffic.
  3. A small piece of land in the province. I've been thinking of learning either beekeeping or mushroom farming so I can try to set up a small business. Once I save up enough funds I'll most likely be taking a short course in either, then hopefully I can put into practice what I'll earn. Just so I have some passive income.
  4. An electric guitar and amplifier with cables and effects. A Gibson SG, a small Marshall amp, some nice cables, and maybe a wah-wah pedal since I already own a turbo distortion.
Hmm, that's it for now I guess.

[774] Not Another Birthday Wish List

In less than one month I'll be having my 38th birthday. And as is usually the case around these times I'll be posting yet another birthday wish list.

As I grow older and look back on past wish lists I can see the changes happening in my way of thinking and my priorities. Doing a quick search on my blog and I can see I really wasn't that much into fantastic things to wish for.

Things have changed greatly this year, though. Stuff happened that I did not want to happen. There were things in my life, as well as my wife and daughter's lives, that we were hoping would happen to us that were changed because of certain things we cannot control.

Anyway, without further ado, here is my 2018 birthday wish list.

  1. Money. Greed is good. Specially with what's happening now. I'd rather not talk about it. I just wish I could just one day receive a huge amount of money. I could take care of our problems, buy a decent sized condo near Makati, fix or replace the Rav4, and invest for our future.
That's it. That's all I want. A huge amount of money. Money solves all problems. It's also the root of most problems, but having a huge amount of money will help solve it. It probably won't buy me happiness, but I do know it will make help me sleep better at night. Just knowing I have the funds to take care of stuff that's beyond my control.

This 38th birthday of mine will be interesting. I was about to type "the worst birthday in a while" but to be honest, it won't. I'm having a lot of problems now and I'm doing my best to persevere and push through. Negativity will be there, but I'm fighting. I'm doing it right now, fighing my "woe is me" attitude.

[749] Birthday Wishlist 2017

I have a few "traditions" I do whenever my birthday is coming up. One is to get a haircut, and I am done with that. The other is to write down a wishlist of things I want. After the events that happened in early 2017 this is my wishlist.

  1. A healthy life. Like I mentioned before, I have lost weight. It was partially because I knew I needed to be able to stay healthy if I want to be able to provide for my family.
  2. A stable, strong income. Enough to pay for my daughter's education AND be able to save money WHILE helping out in the expenses at home. Right now I can only do the first two, barely. I would love to help out at home and I am very, very grateful that for now we are not wanting.
  3. Peace of mind. I think too much and my emotions still get the better of me most of the time. I just want peace.
I am not joking when I write those things. Now here is my materialistic wishlist.
  1. Honda BR-V. When I saw this car in person for the first time, I was blown away. While a Toyota Innova is bigger and a Toyota Avanza is cheaper, there is something about how the BR-V looks that draws me to it. This right now is THE family car I want for the Philippines.
  2. Two-bedroom condominium unit in Makati with two parking slots. My daughter is going to a big school in a few weeks and it would give me a lot of peace of mind if we lived a lot closer to her school. Traffic wouldn't be as much of a concern, and the house would be close enough that in case of emergency I can pick her up faster and bring her home faster. Also having a condo in Makati would put us closer to malls and hospitals. And groceries.
  3. A Subaru WRX or Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ. My first option would be the WRX. Still has the capabilities of a sports car but it could seat five people. Perfect fun car. The BRZ/86 is the secondary option because that car is nice. But small.
That's it. I don't even want a PS4 or an electric guitar. And in all honesty I would rather have the first three things I wished for. If I had those three I believe I would have no problem achieving the next three.

Birthday 2014 Wishlist V1.0

I won't be doing my usual Project 365 post. I think I need to just blog about that once a week. Don't worry, I still take daily pictures.

Today I'll be posting about stuff I want for my birthday this year. In no particular order, here they are:

  1. A new rain jacket. My mom has a good point - my jackets and hoodies are all old and worn. It's time to "retire" them, meaning I should probably start giving them to charity or selling them in a garage sale. adidas has a nice jacket I saw online. The specs of that jacket is just right for my daily use. Here's another offering from Nike, although it looks really expensive.
  2. A new pair of basketball shoes. Preferably low cut. The Kobe V's I purchased years ago was the best pair I've had, and I really wish I could get another pair of Kobes. The Nike Zoom Kobe Venomenon 4 looks really great. I wonder if it's sold here?
  3. A couple of pairs of Burlington men's socks. Three pairs of casual socks and six pairs of sports socks. I've been a fan of Burlington's since I switched to them years ago. I've been wearing them for so long I cannot even remember when I switched to them.
  4. Underwear. If briefs, Hanes. If boxer-briefs, Giordano. Enough said.
  5. Dri fit collared shirts. Because we are required to wear collared shirts at work, and I'd rather wear dri fit shirts to keep me cool.
So far those are the things I'd want for my birthday. Most, if not all, of them are pretty realistic. I'll probably be posting my more extreme wishlist as my birthday nears.
