The Curse of the Big, Bad Wolf

Chris Webber is one of my favorite basketball players, all-time. I've been a fan of his since his Bullets days in Washington. But I have a theory about him and what happens to teams after they trade him away.

The teams lose. Look at Golden State. After trading him they become a losing team most of the time. Then the Wizards (ex-Bullets) traded him to Sacramento for Mitch Ritchmond and Otis Thorpe. I thought the Wizards would be a perennial playoff team with Juwan and Mitch. But boy was I wrong.

Turned out Sacramento started winning with Webber around. More of his skills were shown off and he started carrying the team. Of course there were doubters and naysayers, but that's just natural.

Then he blows his knee out, missed nearly an entire season, and supposedly ruins the Kings' chemistry when he returns.

Right.

So the Kings chose Peja Stojakovic over Chris Webber. They sent C Webb to Philly for three players. Good move at the time. Because Webb still wasn't at 100%. Nor was he comfortable with moving with his surgically repaired knee.

Now the Kings are in disarray. The Sixers are just a .500 team but they're in a better situation that the Kings. Just ask Marc Stein of ESPN.com.

So the Kings, after trading Webber, start to fall apart. Coincidence? Or the Curse of the Big, Bad Wolf?

You decide.

Out.
