The British Royal Wedding

Yesterday was the wedding of Prince Charles to Kate Middleton.

The coverage here in the Philippines was mad. Local free channels, local cable channels all showed broadcasts of the Royal Wedding. International cable channels featured Royal Wedding Week themed programs.

So why is everyone so obsessed with the Royal Wedding?

With all due respect to the happy couple, but I was not interested in their wedding. First, I'm not British. Second, The Philippines isn't a British Commonwealth. Third, I'm a guy. It's not really my thing to watch this.

I'm pretty sure there are other countries with royal families there, but they don't get the same amount of coverage. Maybe it's because it's the British royal family. I really don't know.

I'm more interested in what's going on in Syria. But I guess people are looking for anything nice, happy, and positive to cheer for rather than getting depressed with news of war. But that's just me.

Mileage Report April 8 - April 26

Thanks to the Holy Week inactivity, I was able to extend my gasoline for a little over two weeks! Traveled 235kms total and used up 29.85L of unleaded for a sweet mileage of 7.87km/L.

I also switched brands from what we usually use to a new, cheaper brand. Cheaper doesn't mean worse, though. It just means I saved roughly PhP1.00 per liter of gas I filled up with.

The reason for the switch was because my father decided it was time to switch to the other brand since the brand we usually use leads the market in fuel prices.

Top Five Cars of All-Time

Yesterday I was at a friend's house and he asked me a question of what my top five cars of all time are. Of course, this question stumped me. I dished out five different cars, and I won't be surprised if I changed my mind about my top five in a few years. Days even. So here they are, in no particular order, plus an explanation why I like that particular car.

Ford GT40

My infatuation with this car started when I was playing Gran Turismo 2. At the time it reminded me of Speed Racer's Mach Five. It was extremely difficult to drive, and I took it as a personal challenge to "tame the beast" and use it successfully. And I did. I managed to race it to victory in, among other races, an endurance race. And I never spun out. Since then It's been a personal favorite of mine. I honestly think the Ford GT did it justice. This one most definitely won't be removed from my top five cars of all-time.

Nissan R34 Skyline

A monster. Looks nice, strong engine, very intimidating car. I was fortunate enough to be able to ride a Nissan R32 GTS-t Skyline.

2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

I have a specific year for this car. This is the STi that a lot of people like. It can seat four to five adults, it can most likely go toe-to-toe with some high end sports cars, and it looks real nice. This is the perfect compromise, in my opinion, of a supercar and a family car.

Volkswagen Beetle

Not the New Beetle. The old one. The classic. But, if you've read previous posts, I want to turn this into a pseudo Baja Bug type car.

Volkswagen Kombi / Sambabus

Another classic. And I would love to do a restoration / modification on it. Add different modern tech on it so it would still work well in today's times.

And those are the five cars I could think of at the time.

Quick Post

It's been quite a while since my last post. The reason for this is mine and mine alone.

Quick updates, mostly for my PS3 life.

NBA 2K11 - My Player is now averaging a triple double on Pro difficulty. 23ppg 14rpg 10apg with 1bpg to go with it. We're six games away from the playoffs and we have the best record in the league. Boo-yeah.

Gran Turismo 5 - I have deleted my GT5 save. And created a new game. I'm going to try to limit the cars I have and spend money on only the cars that I know can win me races. That was my mistake with the first GT5 save I had - I spent too much on an AE86 Levin. Bad move. Now it seems that I'm spending too much on a 90s MX-5 Miata, but at least that car is a premium car and I used it on two or three different races.

I've been playing the guitar again. Thanks to this website my officemate discovered, I've been slowly rekindling my guitar playing. Unfortunately the first song I want to learn is Megadeth's Lucretia. Not a good choice for someone severely lacking in finger dexterity and patience. But I'm hoping I can eventually play along to the song, even if "just" the rhythm guitar parts.
