I just realized I've been thinking about swapping a Japan surplus DA17 engine and transmissions to a 1990s locally sold Suzuki Super Carry. What I didn't think about was the current locally sold Suzuki Carry.
Not purchasing one. Swapping all possible components of a current Carry into the body of an older Suzuki Carry. For context, they don't sell a minivan version of the Suzuki Carry anymore. I'm guessing this is because of poor sales or whatever. Most Filipinos think bigger is better so there are a lot of SUVs and massive pick ups plying the streets.
So would it be possible to do this? I don't know. The current Carry has a 1.5L engine based on the brochure. Then all models sold here are manual.
While I do know how to drive stick, I'd much prefer scooting around (as if there was no traffic in Metro Manila) on an automatic transmission. I'm pretty sure there's a way to do an automatic transmission swap but again, I honestly have no clue how to register a heavily restomodded car legally.
I imagine though that this would be a more practical solution to my restomod idea. Suzuki Carrys are locally sold so parts should be easier to find here. The only problems I have now are where to find the money for this and where to find a great builder for this crazy idea.
Out.
