1224: Updates

It's been two weeks or so since the major oil price increases started happening. Diesel prices have nearly doubled in the gas stations I've seen, while gas has significantly risen as well. Prices in the market have gone up, understandably (and sadly).

Some people are coping, some are acting as if everything is normal, and some people are adjusting. I guess I fall in the last category. I'm trying to limit whatever activities I have that consume gas and other utilities. I just wish other people thought the same.

It's really straining my budget, but I have no choice but to soldier on.

Late edit: Apparently today marks the anniversary of my blog! Twenty-one years and still blogging.

1223 - Coffee

I just recently started using the digital weighing scale for my personal, French pressed coffee again. I used to do that before with a ratio of around 250 g of hot water for around 20 g of ground coffee.

Lately since I've been trying to ration my beans I've only been doing around 10 to 15 g of grounds and 200 g of water, though I upped the amount of water to 250 g earlier today.

I found that doing the 200 g of water made the brew a bit too bitter for my taste. Plus I prefer quantity over quality and 200 g is just a wee bit too little for me, so I'll be sticking with 250 g of how water moving forward.

I will only be doing this when my folks aren't here. When they are I just grind 6 to 7 tablespoons of beans, maybe 30 to 40 g in weight, and add around 4 cups of water to the coffee machine. This isn't as bitter but we do have a lot of coffee to go around.

1222 - Fuel Prices

A massive fuel price increase this coming week is expected here in the Philippines because of current events unfolding in the Middle East. The 2026 Iran Conflict basically assured massive increases in oil prices because if I'm not mistaken the Strait of Hormuz was "shut down" which will prevent the shipping of oil.

We're already anticipating PhP10 to PhP20 increase in gasoline, diesel, and kerosene prices. It won't surprise me if the costs of other goods increase as well due to the increase costs of fuel.

This is worrisome to me since I'm already in a tight budget, but I need to constantly remind myself to calm down since these are things out of my control. The best I can do is wait how things unfold and adapt as best as I can.

I also need to remind myself to be thankful that our Wigo is very fuel efficient, and that it will help me weather the storm of surging fuel prices.

The best thing to do now is to keep a level head and be prepared for anything.

1221 - Writer's Block

I honestly have no idea what to blog about lately. I'd rather keep my personal thoughts private and I just keep repeating the stuff I blog about.

There are so many things going on in the world today, some positive, some negative. I honestly don't know enough to give an opinion, and even if I did have an opinion, why would I write about it for public consumption?

So there, writer's block. Hopefully I think of something to write about.
